The Red Deer School Division is made up of multiple very large, large, medium, and small schools and facilities all connected together to access district online services as well as the Internet in general for the common provision of education to more than 11,000 students in the Red Deer area.

All aspects of the teaching and learning process are fundamental to the division’s work. If the last 16 months have taught us anything, access to quality teaching and learning must be available, at a minimum, during every school day, but must also be accessible during evenings and weekends.

With a goal of active curriculum development and deployment related to the implementation of six new areas of study for our Kindergarten to Grade 6 students this year, the Division sees a significant need for an educational tool to assist in the development and implementation of this new curriculum. Further, new curriculum will be following for Grades 7 to 9, and 10 to 12, in the subsequent two years, respectively. The need to design, share, and deploy new curriculums efficiently and effectively will be paramount.

The Red Deer School Division currently utilizes the PowerSchool student information system, and it will be a required element for any learning management system to, as seamlessly as possible, integrate with the information available through PowerSchool. This includes, but is not limited to, grades and attendance (for parents, students, and teachers); classroom information; and general student demographic information.   

The Red Deer School Division also relies heavily on the Google Workspace for Education environment, and it is an expectation that the learning management system will be able to integrate with our extensive existing Google content, including, but not limited to, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
